17-year-old arrested after fifteen attempted robberies overnight

A nocturnal teenager was arrested in the early hours of Sunday for a series of attempted thefts committed during the night in Les Cèdres, in Montérégie.

The suspect is a 17-year-old boy with no criminal record. He could face charges of attempted theft of vehicles or from vehicles, as well as trespassing at night. He also received a ticket for not respecting the curfew in force in Quebec.

According to information sent by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), it was a citizen who heard noise and who surprised the criminal who was trying to get into his vehicle, around 2:45 a.m.

The witness would have immediately called the police officers while following at a good distance the escape of the suspect who was moving on foot.

Once there, the police took advantage of the fall of a new layer of snow to follow the suspect’s tracks and pick him up in the Montée Ménard area.

After carrying out checks, the police observed that the individual had visited about fifteen places in the Montée Ménard area, Boulevard de la Cité des Jeunes, Chemin Saint-Dominique and Rue Leduc.

The spokesperson for the SQ, Sergeant Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, wanted to congratulate the citizens of Les Cèdres since it seems that all the doors of the vehicles approached by the suspect were locked.
