Xavi, on the renewal of Dembélé: “I’m still hopeful”

After the club admitted in recent days that the renewal of the French international is quite complicated, the Catalan coach was “optimistic and positive” so that in the next meetings between both parties an agreement is closed, although he acknowledged that “now is far”.

“He will not be happier anywhere than at Barça. For me it is the best club in the world and I pass it on to my players. He has understood, the sports project may outweigh the economic issue and, therefore, I am still hopeful, “he said at the press conference prior to the match against Mallorca this Sunday.

With the arrival of the new year, Dembélé, whose contract with Barcelona ends in June 2022, can now negotiate with any other team.

At the appearance, Xavi revealed that he has spoken with the player again and has insisted “naturally” that “well trained” he can become “the best player in the world” in his position.

“The agents do not understand that we are in a difficult situation at the club. I have spoken with the player, he wants to make the effort. I am not disappointed in him as there is always give and take in a negotiation. Now it is far away, but we hope it gets closer ”, he specified.

Precisely, the Barça coach revealed that an eventual downward renewal of Dembélé would be key for Barcelona to register Ferran Torres.

On the incorporation of the Valencian player, Xavi pointed out that it is a signing that “will give a lot” to the team and he was “very happy” for the “economic effort” made by both the player and the Catalan entity.

“The best virtue of Ferrán Torres is his personality. The mentality he has is tremendous ”, highlighted Xavi, who is confident that the salary limit situation will be solved as soon as possible to be able to register Ferran Torres and more players in the winter market.

“There is one month left on the market and we will see what happens. We depend on the salary limit and for people to enter, players have to come out ”, he settled.
