The doctor and director of the report, Ronald Evans, said that the increase in new covid-19 cases must be analyzed with caution, especially against the behavior of the Omicron variant.
“Presumably, after the holidays, in January we will have a significant outbreak of cases caused by a coronavirus that insists on disrupting the life of humanity, despite the fact that in many countries it has been possible to reach high percentages of its population vaccinated. The hope is that by displacing the delta variant, the omicron pandemic will have a shorter duration and cause fewer deaths due to the vaccine, ”Evans said.
The Ministry of Health reported this Friday the identification of three new cases of the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 in the country, reaching a total of four cases nationwide. None of the new cases is related to the minor who became the first discovery of the variant in Costa Rica.
The new cases are a foreigner with a history of travel to Africa and two Costa Ricans with a history of travel to the United States and Europe. All the people are stable and have not required hospitalization.
The authorities indicated that they are working on the epidemiological investigation of the cases and their contacts.
The Government expressed that this finding does not imply changes in the current measures and emphasized the call to the population to redouble compliance with protocols such as the correct use of the mask, hand washing and to complete the vaccination schedules against covid-19.
