Guatemala still does not detect presence of omicron variant

The results of the 54 positive coronavirus samples that were sent to the Costa Rican Institute for Health Nutrition Research and Teaching (Incense) were sent to the Health authorities and it is detailed that the presence of the omicron variant has not yet been detected. .

These samples were taken from November 8 to December 2 for analysis, where it is possible to detect what type of variant is making the population sick and where it comes from.

According to the results issued by the Costa Rican laboratory, all the variants analyzed correspond to the Delta. These samples were taken from patients originating from the departments of Guatemala, Quiché, El Progreso, Huehuetenango, Alta Verapaz, Chimaltenango, Escuintla, San Marcos and Totonicapán.

Most of these patients were asymptomatic or reported mild symptoms.

But although the results of this sequencing were negative to omicron, it does not mean that this variant is not circulating in the country. The Ministry of Health indicated that next Monday, December 27, another hundred samples will be sent to a laboratory in Panama to be analyzed.

While the Health authorities try to detect the presence of omicron, the sanitary measures of the use of a mask, social distancing and hand washing are maintained.
