Eternal Christmas, The Musicians of Saint-Julien

As our CD suggestions are also often used for downloads or listening on demand, it is still time to present this double album, which is confusing. This is by no means a new Christmas record by François Lazarevich, but the inclusion of his CD “Noël baroque” from 2016, one of the rare “essentials” of this repertoire, in a new set comprising simply 26 minutes of a public concert recorded on Radio France in 2017, under the direction of Sofi Jeannin and Henri Chalet, shared between 4 Motets for Christmas time by Poulenc and 5 traditional songs, including 3 with the (respectful) participation of the public. The very “midnight mass with applause” atmosphere is also an opportunity to sound the new organ of Radio France. Nice album of course, even essential if Lazarevich’s “Baroque Christmas” on an isolated CD were to disappear, but the album in no way doubles the masterpiece of “Baroque Christmas” with a romantic or traditional counterpart of the same level.
