Érick Barrondo and his marching team bring joy to children at Christmas parties

This year, the national team gave food to elderly women from the Chiyuc village, as well as gifts to the children of Santa Elena, Saquixim, Chepenal, Nuevo Quejá. In all places they were received with a smile of joy and gratitude.

“With the distribution of food, we had to walk a lot among the mountains, muddy roads and large pools of water. Part of the idea was that the boys of the team lived for a day the adversities and the hard experience that our people have to live in the interior, day after day, ”said Barrando.

Also in the group of marchers was José Eduardo Ortiz, who participated in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and closed 2021 with a bronze medal in the Junior Pan American Championship held in Cali-Valle.

Barrondo, London 2012 silver medalist, indicated that this time they delivered in the different villages 3,770 gifts, as well as a hundred bags of food. His goal for next year is to have the support of more companies, to deliver at least 10,000 gifts to children, and thus benefit more villages.

More joys
For its part, the Guatemalan Olympic Foundation (Funog) brought together some of the children from the settlements to see a movie, and they were offered a snack. They also gave bags of groceries to various families.

“As in previous years, with much love and joy a Christmas bag was delivered to all Funog headquarters as a reward to children and young people who were more constant in attendance and in the application of Olympic values,” he said in social networks.

He added: “Many of the families of the members are still experiencing the material or physical consequences left by the covid-19 pandemic and these small details are a relief for the end of this year.”
The Olympic Foundation has benefited more than 1,550 children and young people from headquarters in the capital, Baja Verapaz, Sacatepéquez and Escuintla.
