Joan Didion, a leading figure in the literature of the real, is no longer

She was one of the leading figures of the new journalism, a profession many embarked on after reading her brilliant prose. Award-winning author, respected intellectual, American Joan Didion died on December 23 at the age of 87.

After documenting the counter-cultural movement in the 1960s, she migrated to more socio-political concerns.

Published in 2005, his autobiographical essay The year of magical thinking, on mourning for her spouse, won her, among other things, the National Book Award and the Medici Prize.
