Who are the members of the Fernández dynasty, the Vicente Fernández family

Vicente Fernández left for eternity at the age of 81, on December 12. Just as he left an unmatched legacy in ranchera music, he also did so with his family, of whom he was very attached and protective. With his children and grandchildren, he will continue his mark on the Mexican regional genre.

Chente was born on February 17, 1940 in Huentitán El Alto, Jalisco. He was the son of rancher Ramón Fernández Barba and Paula Gómez. His legacy began when he met María del Refugio Abarca Villaseñor, better known as “Doña Cuquita” and with whom he formed one of the most stable marriages in Mexico.

“Doña Cuquita” was born on July 23, 1946. At the age of 17, he began dating Chente, after being separated for a while because the singer traveled to Mexico City in search of his musical dream, they married in December 1963. As a result of their relationship, they had three children: Vicente, Gerardo and Alejandro Fernández. In addition, they adopted Alejandra, who is the daughter of Doña Cuquita’s sister.

Vicente Fernández Jr.

The eldest son of the Fernández Abarca couple was born in November 1962 in Mexico City. Vicente tried to follow in the artistic footsteps of his father, however, he was not so successful. He currently has four children: Vicente, Ramón, Sissi and Fernanda, the product of his first marriage to the journalist Mara Patricia Castañeda.

In 1988 the Fernándezes received a message asking for a fortune in exchange for the well-being of Vicente Jr. He was kidnapped by a criminal gang known as the “mochadedos”, who tortured their victims by cutting off their limbs to pressure relatives with large amounts of money . He was deprived of liberty for 121 days.

His marriage to Mara Patricia Castañeda ended in 2015. He is currently engaged to Mariana González and is the grandfather of four children: Luca, Carlotta, Antonella and Emilio.

Gerardo Fernandez

The second son of Vicente Fernández and Doña Cuquita is the most reserved of the family, since he tries to have a low profile in the media, however, it has been impossible due to his alleged connections with drug trafficking, since he would have been a friend of Ignacio Nacho Coronel, a deceased drug trafficker belonging to the Sinaloa Cartel.

Due to the fact that he leads the life of a businessman, it is rumored that he will be the one who will inherit the fortune of the Charro de Huentitán. In 2011, he tried to run for a deputation of the coalition between the Institutional Revolutionary Party and the Green Ecologist, but did not obtain good results.

He has two children: Gerardo and Alba.

Alejandro Fernandez

He was born on November 4, 1993 in Mexico City. He is currently the most successful musician in the family, after Chente. From the beginning of his career he received the support of his father, with whom he performed on several occasions and was a special guest at his concerts.

Love of two it was the inevitable theme in the repertoire when they performed together. It was even the song that Alejandro sang at Vicente’s farewell, on December 12, at the VFG Arena, which is part of the ranch of the Mexican music idol. One of the most memorable ensemble performances was in 2016, when they sang Dear pigeon for the live album “Un azteca en el azteca” that was recorded in his last presentation at the Azteca Stadium.

Alejandro Fernández is the father of Alejandro Jr., Camila and América, who were the product of his first marriage to América Guinart. When he was married to the model Ximena Díaz, he had Emiliano and Valentina. Currently the latter turned the “Foal” into a grandfather, with the arrival of his first-born Cayetana.

Alejandro Jr., known as “Alex” decided to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather and perform regional Mexican music. In 2018 Vicente Fernández sponsored him on his first musical release and in 2019 he accompanied him on the premiere of his first studio album Follow the dynasty, with songs selected by both.

“El Potrillo” has followed the example of his father and just as Vicente did at the time, he has invited Alex to share the stage with him. He is currently the special guest on his “Made in Mexico” tour.

Camila has also dabbled in the music scene. In 2014 he debuted with his father on stage at the MGM Gran Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, where he performed the single Today I want you. He then returned to the scene when he collaborated on the theme The endless cycle from The Lion King, which is part of the album “We Love Disney”.

She is the adoptive daughter of Vicente Fernández and Mrs. María del Refugio. She is actually the daughter of Doña Cuquita’s sister, but she joined the Fernández dynasty at 40 days of birth. “Alejandra’s story, I don’t know, was 40 days old, so it was my birthday and I lived in Guadalajara, and she left the girl with me. I played with her until she made her sleepy. Then I put her in the crib and said ‘go to sleep now’ and she fell asleep. With that they beat me, “said Chente at the time, according to the portal Infobae.

In 2014 Alejandra married the pianist José Luis Altamirano, from whom she soon separated.
