Renap identifies 10 Guatemalans killed in an accident in Chiapas, but Minex does not make official details of repatriation

Although the National Registry of Persons (Renap) ensures that they have already identified 10 Guatemalans who died in the accident of a trailer in Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas, Mexico, the Ministry of Foreign Relations (Minex) has not yet made official information regarding the repatriation of the bodies.

Nine days have passed since the tragedy that left 56 dead and almost a hundred injured and none of the Guatemalans who died have been repatriated, and worse still, neither the Guatemalan nor Mexican authorities have given details of the identities of the victims, despite the fact that many families demand answers in the midst of the anguish that they have had to live.

“Recently, a specialized team from the Mobile Biometric Identification Unit of the Renap National Registry of Persons traveled to Chiapas, Mexico, to assist with the identification of nationals who died in the tragic accident, which occurred en route from Chiapa de Corzo to Tuxtla Gutiérrez , Chiapas, Mexico, where with the comparison of traces it has been possible to identify ten (10) of them so far, ”says Renap in a statement.

The names of the victims were not revealed, because, according to Renap, “the identity of the people is a human right and identification a service, which with state-of-the-art equipment provides the National Registry of People, and which maintains the records of Guatemalans since 2009 ”.

The document adds that “Renap uses biometrics as a reliability factor so that the identity of Guatemalans has legal certainty and security, an important action in the country’s national security.

“All citizens who have processed their Personal Identification Document -DPI- are certain that they are registered in the civil registry to recognize people. The fingerprint record is essential to distinguish oneself, to identify oneself and also to be able to be quickly recognized by family members in emergency situations ”, he adds.

Without details

The days have passed and the Minex authorities have not revealed details about the identification and repatriation of bodies.

This Friday an attempt was made to speak with Foreign Minister Pedro Brolo, but he did not answer the calls to his cell phone; In addition, the query was sent to its Communication staff, but at the end of this note they had not responded to the messages.
