Authorities of the Ministry of Health received this Thursday, December 16, at the La Aurora International Airport a new batch of 1 million 350 doses of Pfizer vaccine.

Salud reported that these covid-19 vaccines were acquired by Guatemala through the Covax mechanism.

Diana Sierra, coordinator of the Immunization Program of the Ministry of Health, indicated at a press conference that this new batch of doses represents the possibility of continuing with the actions to vaccinate the 12 to 17-year-old population.

Also to continue vaccinating pregnant women and completing the vaccination schedule for another group of Guatemalans.

He added that the population should not forget the importance of prevention measures, including vaccination.

He affirmed that Guatemala has enough doses to attend to those who have not yet been vaccinated and to approach the vaccination posts.

He asked the population not to relax the measures, since the covid-19 has not disappeared and the use of the mask must be maintained.

Carlo Carrera, from Unicef, said that these new doses allow Guatemala to advance in the process of vaccination against covid-19.

He also called for not neglecting vaccination because it is effective in fighting covid-19.

The authorities hope that, with the vaccination of minors, classes in the national territory can be face-to-face and hybrid from February 15, 2022.

Guatemala also awaits the authorization of doses for children under 11 years of age, since this would also help to return to classes in person.

Until this Thursday, the Ministry of Health reports that 10 million 734 thousand 808 vaccines have been administered, corresponding to 6 million 318 thousand 501 people with the first application and 4 million 416 thousand 307 with a complete scheme.
