Government offers 10 kilos of rice to residents who are vaccinated against the coronavirus

The Government of Guatemala began this Wednesday, December 15 with the comprehensive vaccination days, in which it is intended to immunize adolescents between 12 and 17 years of age from 50 prioritized municipalities, where, in addition, those who are inoculated will be given 10 kilos (about 22 pounds) of rice.

President Alejandro Giammattei participated this Wednesday in the comprehensive vaccination session in Chiquimula, where he said that the rice that will be provided is part of a donation of 1,000 tons in 10-kilogram bags by the Government of Taiwan.

“We are working to encourage vaccination, we are delivering 10 kilos of rice for the vaccine that people get, children and adults, trying to cover the municipalities with the lowest vaccination rate,” said the president.

As in his last public appearances, Giammattei assures that given the drop in coronavirus cases, the Government has closed two temporary hospitals and assures that it is because the “vaccination is taking effect.”

“Thanks to what you – the population – have done, we have closed two covid-19 hospitals,” said Giammattei, who added that “vaccination is having its effects, if we want to go back to living without masks and if we want to have a life as long as possible. close to normal we have to get vaccinated, what the vaccine does is that it prevents death, “he said.

“What you see there, all that rice that was not donated by Taiwan, a thousand tons to support the vaccination day in 10-kilogram bags so that people can take food home,” the president reiterated.

According to the latest update from the Ministry of Health, in Guatemala six million 293 thousand 148 people have been vaccinated with the first dose and four million 389 thousand 455 have the complete scheme, that is, two doses. In total, 10 million 682 thousand 603 have been applied in the country.

Giammattei exalts contested deputy

During the inauguration of the vaccination days in Camotán, President Giammattei praised the work of Deputy Boris Spain, who was recently included by the US State Department in a list of corrupt officials.

“In Camotán a soup kitchen will be opened next year thanks to the management of a person who today could be at home resting because he is turning 70 years old; however, he is working and one of the things he asked me is that he does not forget Camotán and Jocotán ”, said the president when referring to the Spanish deputy.
