Five people accused of homicide for violent eviction of vendors are captured in Coatepeque

The Public Ministry (MP) reported this Wednesday, December 15, that arrests are reported in follow-up to six search procedures coordinated by the Office of the Prosecutor for Crimes against Justice Operators and Trade Unionists, in Coatepeque, Quetzaltenango.

The arrest of five people accused of the crimes of homicide and attempted murder is reported.

According to investigations by prosecutors, the incident occurred on October 6, 2009 when agents of the Municipal Police of the Municipality of Coatepeque evicted tenants from the old market.

In the eviction they used public force and shot at vendors and passersby.

At the scene, several of them were injured, while Miguel Chacaj Jax, a member of the Trade Union of Coatepeque Workers, died.

The proceedings in this case are still under development.
