For the national athlete Érick Gordillo it was the third medal in the closing of the swimming performance in the jousts, after the gold in the 400 meters combined, the previous Monday and the bronze in the 200 meters back on Saturday.
In the Hernando Botero O’byrne pools, Gordillo, who is one of the flag-bearers of the delegation, finished the 200-meter individual combined event with a mark of 2: 02.47. Gold went to Patrick Groters from Aruba (2:02:09) and bronze to Frabrizio Mateos from Paraguay (2:04:53).
While the other Guatemalan athlete Roberto Bonilla, who also added three medals, finished in fifth place with a mark of 2: 06.82.
Érick Gordillo’s performance has been one of the most outstanding so far. Since Saturday, the athlete began to make a difference in the 200 meters back where he obtained the bronze with a time of 2: 03.00 minutes, which earned him to set his personal best and absolute national record.
Then came the gold in the 400 meters combined, where he also achieved his classification to the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile 2023.
Other outstanding results of yesterday’s day was in athletics with Mariandrée Chacón’s classification at the final of the 100 meters. The national team advanced with the eighth best time – 11.72 new national record – and will run the final today.
Guatemala has so far 12 medals in the Junior Pan American Championship, 1 gold, 2 silver and 9 bronze. The jousts will end on December 5.
