Two clashes between alleged hitmen of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) and the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel left eight men dead in Valparaíso, a municipality located in the south of the state of Zacatecas, Mexico.
The Mexican authorities located pickup trucks that were bloody and with holes made by high-caliber weapons after the shooting carried out by both criminal groups during the night of Friday, November 26.
The Zacatecas Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the death of eight people, who so far have not been identified.
According to information from the Zacatecas authorities, the first armed attack occurred on a road that connects the community of San Martín de la Palma with the town of Peñitas del Oriente.

Faced with these confrontations, the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) and the National Guard went to the scene. Later, ministerial agents also arrived to carry out the corresponding investigations.
A video circulates on social networks that shows the exact moment when the residents of Valparaíso hear the shots of the confrontation between the two drug trafficking organizations.
Upon noticing the shooting, people seek shelter amid the terror and chaos caused by this armed confrontation. Fortunately, none of the residents of this Mexican municipality was injured.

During 2021, Valparaíso has been the scene of other confrontations between the CJNG and the Sinaloa Cartel. Last June, a shooting that lasted for several hours between the two criminal groups left 18 dead.
Given the constant armed confrontations, on November 24 the federal authorities began with Operation Zacatecas II, in order to reinforce state security with the inclusion of approximately 3,850 agents.
However, less than 48 hours after the launch of this operation, Zacatecas was once again the scene of an armed confrontation between drug traffickers.

The mayor of the municipality of Valparaíso, Eleuterio Ramos Leal, complained on November 21 about the little interest shown by the government of David Monreal, Governor of the state of Zacatecas, in the face of violence and drug trafficking.
“The reality is that the municipalities are having a hard time, because we have to accompany the families in their displacement, we help them to find a place to live, to look for food, to see where the children are at school,” he denounced before local media.
“It is a critical issue, it is a serious issue, it demands attention, of course it is urgent. In what this government has been running, I have not seen the State Police or anyone who travels through Valparaíso, ”said Mayor Ramos Leal.
