“It is more and more difficult for me to believe in this football awards”: Iker Casillas’ harsh criticism of Leo Messi’s seventh Ballon d’Or

The former goalkeeper of Real Madrid, Porto and the Spanish Soccer Team used his Twitter account to launch a harsh criticism of the Ballon d’Or awarded to Leo Messi on November 29.

The former Madrid captain wrote a rude message that made his position clear, although he did not say so, that Robert Lewandowski, the Polish striker for Bayern Munich, should have won.

Undoubtedly, Casilla joins the extensive list of soccer characters who have rejected the award this year to the Argentine, who was champion of America with the Argentine National Team.

“I find it more and more difficult to believe in this football award thing”, Iker began his text on the bird’s social network.

Of course, respecting Messi’s career, Casillas clarified: “For me, Messi, he is one of the five best players in all of history.”

Then he added: “But you have to start knowing how to catalog who are the most prominent after a season.”

He was punctual in closing his message on Twitter. He did not mention France Football magazine, but argued: “You have to start knowing how to catalog who are the most prominent after a season. It’s not that hard, damn it! Others make it difficult! ”.

So far, Casilla’s message has been echoed by his more than 9 million followers who until today do not stop retweeting it, quoting it and putting the heart of likes.

The detractors of the merengue exporter say that his message was because Karim Benzema, his teammate at Real Madrid, was not even in the top three of the candidates to receive the Ballon d’Or.

Robert Lewandowski and Jorginho were just ahead of Benzema and behind Messi. And so things continue to talk about after the delivery of this award.

France Football magazine created two new awards in the 2021 edition of the Ballon d’Or: the scorer and the team of the year. The first was awarded to Lewandowski and the second to Chelsea.

Messi, during his speech, declared that the Polish striker deserved to have the Ballon d’Or for the 2019-2020 season at home, because it was a spectacular campaign that included championships in the Bundesliga and in Europe.
