Mastercard is the strategic ally of the capital commune to achieve the city’s adherence to the City Possible-Ciudad Posible- platform, so it can now access the best practices of more than 300 cities in the world.
The tool is a public-private partnership model led by this global technology company and guarantees the city access to a network of resources and best practices.
“We are now consolidating as a member city of the City Possible platform, a network of more than 300 cities in the world that are committed to growth, inclusion and innovation.
It is a new model of urban development, in which several cities, companies, academics and communities participate that work together to make the cities of the future more inclusive and sustainable, ”said Francisco Milián, Mastercard Country Manager for Guatemala and Belize.
With the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Mastercard and the capital city municipality, the city has at its disposal the data to catalyze development in topics such as data analysis, technological innovation, connectivity, sustainable growth and digital access.
It will also be able to promote projects of mutual interest, expand the contactless payment network in public transport, transport campaigns, and expand the acceptance channels for parking meters, bicycle lanes and markets.
“Through the payment system that we have installed in the Transmetro transport service, a lot of data can now be generated, from knowing where users get on, what are the peak hours of the stations, when there are events, how people move , etc.
The information collected translates into a more livable city, where it is possible to plan in a better way and we are providing artificial intelligence tools to make it better for people ”, continued the country manager.
The alliance will also allow the implementation of cybersecurity workshops for municipalities and promote efforts through Mastercard programs, such as Girls4Tech, which instructs girls between the ages of 8 and 18 on scientific, mathematical and technological concepts; Clear Accounts and Digital Allies. The City Possible platform has the support of the Inter-American Development Bank-IDB-.
“We have a very dedicated axis to cybersecurity, where there is more exposure and more user data that needs to be protected and in that, we are experts, since we have done it for many decades, and we are making this experience available to the Municipality. ”Milián concluded.
